Dining Room Makeover

My eight year old self dreamed endlessly about the ways I could renovate my sister and I's club house in the backyard. She still makes fun of me to this day that I had a big vision for our little corner of the universe, most of which included wallpaper and and plastic blow up furniture from KB Toys. I mean it was the 90's after all😂
My now 27 year old self wants pinch myself that I have the ability to actually design spaces that that bring so much joy to the people that I love.
Last September when Tyler and I decided it was time to sell our first home and pursue our dream of living by the lake it was pretty scary. We had no concrete plan, which is pretty scary when you're a creature of habit like myself🙋
So when we found this home in Oconomowoc Wisconsin back in December we instantly fell in love with it. It reminded us both so much of our first apartment and despite the dark colors and my love for all things white, we went for it.
It's been a whirlwind of a time remodeling our home with the challenges of COVID and a really draining year of teaching for me. However, it has been a true dream come true to see it all come together.
My hope is that our home is a place where the people we love can find love when they are down, hope when they are lost, and peace when their world is crashing down.
Little did I know that in designing our dining room a few months back that I'd actually be designing my home office. This little corner became the hub for numerous lessons and meetings.

When we first started the room only had this hideous dark and dingy trim that made the whole room feel closed off. Our first step was to paint all of the trim using Benjamin Moore's Super White paint in semi-gloss and the wall in Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee. The color combination turned out even better than I had expected.

Being that the room was a literally box shape I knew that we had to create mini spaces within the room in order to maximize the amount of people we could accommodate. Tyler and I settled on having a custom made banquet with amazing storage and custom built table that fit right into the cove. The Serena & Lily Rivera Dining chairs and their Headlands Pendant light brought in. the perfect amount of coastal casual that I wanted.
We also had matching Serena & Lily barstools from our first home that I had to use so the custom bar was a natural fit for the opposite wall. It's become the perfect place to seat extra guests or for Tyler and I to sit and have our tea or coffee in the mornings.
When I saw this adorable wicker, (can I just emphasize that I am a sucker for wicker), I had to have it! It was the perfect tie into all of the textures and elements of the room.
Despite COVID we've been able to have some small gatherings here and there and I can confidently say that the space is working just as I had hoped. Our guest's stay well into the night talking and sharing their stories with us.
I would love to hear what you think of our dining room makeover!
